Year 7 pupils at Tong Leadership Academy have raised over £750 for Mind, the mental health charity.

The pupils, aged 11-12, approached their teachers in order to raise money for a good cause through a number of activities which they had thought of themselves.

With the importance of mental health becoming more widely spoken about, the pupils believed that there was more that could be done to carry on the conversation. Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem, raising awareness and promoting understanding.

Through setting up displays, selling refreshments and organising a fun-run, the grand total of £757.61 was reached.

Tong pupils celebrate the money they raised for the mental health charity Mind

Cruze Mellor, one of the Year 7 pupils, commented:

“Mind has helped my friend and his family, so we decided to try and raise some money to help the charity further. Everyone has been really supportive and we raised lots of money which was fantastic. I even donated £20 of my own spending money because it means so much to me!”

Sarah Morren, Year 7 Student Progress Leader, added:

“Year 7 pupils came to me with the idea to raise money for Mind. Mental health is a subject close to the hearts of many children within the school and the wider community, and I was happy to help. It was a pleasure to see the pupils work together, come up with ideas and then turn the ideas into reality. I am extremely proud of how these young people have thrown their hearts and souls into fundraising for such a wonderful cause.”
