Tong Leadership Academy pupils have been taking part in a festive charity drive to help people experiencing hardship during the winter.

Pupils at the school have been preparing gift hampers and packages of food and essential items as part of their annual Festive Winter Gift campaign.

The campaign offers comfort to vulnerable people in the local community over the festive season, and this year, pupils and staff worked harder than ever to provide support.

Pupils collected and donated food items to local charity, Helping Hands, which supplies food to vulnerable people living  in the local area. Collections of toiletries, clothing and toys were also used to create gift boxes for School Home Support, a national charity which works with families in Bradford to improve the life chances of children.

The school also joined with other Star Academies schools to take part in ‘Food for All Week’. From 7th to 13th December, 29 schools across the Star Academies multi-academy trust distributed 50,000 food parcels and meals to those experiencing food poverty.

Dan Styles, Principal at Tong Leadership Academy, thanked pupils, parents and staff for their contribution during what had been a challenging year.

He said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for us all, but despite this, our pupils have continued to think of others.

“Their care and kindness during these times serve as an inspiration to us all and we are incredibly grateful to them for helping us to make a difference in our local community.”
