Geography, Spanish and Maths are some of the lessons Judith Cummins MP experienced when she went back to school here at Tong Leadership Academy.

We hosted a visit from the MP for Bradford South on Friday 15 September as Ms Cummins sought to familiarise herself with the excellent facilities the Academy has to offer.

Together with her Chief of Staff Andrew Thornton, Ms Cummins was taken on a tour of the school by our Principal Stephen Curran.

They saw a number of classes in action, including a Year 8 Maths class, a Year 9 English discussion on social class drawing on the musical Blood Brothers, and a Year 11 Geography class focusing on the primary and secondary effects of earthquakes.

Judith Cummins also met with the Academy’s Senior Leadership Team to discuss school policy and local issues.

Principal Stephen Curran said,

“It was a real pleasure meeting Judith Cummings MP and Andrew Thornton. We were able to demonstrate how positive the Tong Leadership Academy community is and how excited we are about the school’s future as a part of Star Academies. Working in harmony with the local community is, in our view, essential if we are to achieve the levels of excellence we aspire to. So to make such positive start to what I’m sure will be a long and fruitful relationship with Judith and her office was fantastic.”

After her visit, Judith Cummins MP commented,

“I was delighted to meet the staff and students at Tong Leadership Academy. I was particularly impressed with the students’ positive attitudes to their learning.”

Members of our Student Voice Executive Council were also involved in the MP’s visit. Year 10 pupil Aaliyah Vanzie said,

“I really enjoyed meeting Judith Cummins. I have never met an MP before and it was good to hear about her job in Parliament.”

The Academy is preparing for its annual open events for prospective Year 7 pupils on Tuesday 19 September. Families with children in year 5 and 6 are welcome to visit the school to engage in learning activities, and see for themselves the first class facilities on offer at Tong Leadership Academy. An open morning takes place between 8.30am and 11.30am, while the open evening runs from 5pm to 7pm.
