Our Year 12 pupils have entered into a scheme that will see a renowned business advisory firm offer them bespoke mentoring advice and support.

Last week a team from Deloitte UK visited Tong Leadership Academy to launch the mentoring programme with a workshop that inspired students to consider how they present themselves to potential employers.

Year 12 student Saad Kahn commented:

“The personal brand and marketing workshop was really useful in showing us the type of things employers notice and look for in an interview.  It showed us how we speak can make all the difference.”

Students took part in other workshops around developing social skills and next steps, and got to know their Deloitte mentors through networking sessions.

The mentoring programme, which aims to support progress and help our young people develop their networking skills, will run for both years of Sixth Form. Sessions will be delivered at Deloitte’s offices in Leeds as well as in school.

James Blackbrow from Deloitte commented:

“The students were great during the session. They really got involved and wanted to learn, which was brilliant. We are all looking forward to future workshops.”

Christine Webster, our Director of Post-16 Education, added:

“I have worked with Deloitte on a bespoke mentoring scheme that will bring huge benefits for our post-16 students. The team of Deloitte staff acting as mentors for our students come from a wide range of academic backgrounds. Since students will not be allocated a specific mentor, they will all be able to access all members of the mentoring team for support. This offers them a wider variety of skills and experience to draw on as they prepare for their next steps beyond further education.”
