Tong Leadership Academy is celebrating its most successful set of GCSE results, after pupils sat exams for the first time since 2019.

These results come after pupils have valiantly overcome two years of disruption to their education, following periods of lockdowns, self-isolation and illness, with a 17% increase of pupils achieving a ‘strong pass’ (grade 9-5) in GCSE English and Maths. Those achieving a ‘standard pass’ (grade 9-4) in English and Maths increased by 21%.

Staff and parents have today been celebrating with pupils at the school as they progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

One of the many high achieving pupils at the school was Erika Kumar who achieved the top grade of 9 in five subjects. Erika will be pursuing her love of science at Leeds City College.

Another outstanding pupil, Julia Takacsova, only moved to the UK in year 8 and was unable to speak English when she first joined the school. Despite this, the talented pupil achieved grade 8s in both English Language and English Literature. She will be going on to study law at college and hopes to specialise in human rights law.

Fellow pupil Calum Maccioni also came away delighted with his results, which included a grade 9 in English Literature. Calum was delighted to secure a place at Bradford New College to study Geography, Law and Business.

Dan Styles, Principal at Tong Leadership Academy, said:

“With everything that they have had to overcome in their last few years of secondary school education, I am extremely proud of our pupils for achieving our best ever set of GCSE results.

“They have worked extremely hard and I have seen this dedication with my own eyes; these results are a great reward for this commitment.

“Congratulations to all of our pupils, and my thanks go to our wonderful staff and supportive parents and carers who have helped them achieve so much.”
